Last week we started the new year with a question, “Have you opened your gift?” It is my prayer that you spent some quiet time meditating and praying to God regarding your gifts and how to use them. I also pray that you are able to discern distractions that may be keeping you from operating in your gifts. Many times, we will spend a large portion of our lives wondering, searching, and unable to have contentment because we are operating outside of our gifts. This will happen when we fail to align our desire with God’s perfect will. The scripture tells us in Ephesians 4:7, Christ has generously divided out his gifts to us.
Starting today, we have an opportunity to use our gifts and natural talents to build God’s Kingdom on earth. The Bible teaches us that we are blessed to have nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Word of God has provided a very detailed description of spiritual gifts. According to I Corinthians 12:4-11, There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
The Gifts of the Spirit are:
Word of Wisdom
Word of Knowledge
Gift of Prophecy
Gift of Faith
Gifts of Healing
The Working of Miracles
Discerning of Spirits
Speaking in Tongues
Interpretation of Tongues
Many churches offer a spiritual gifts’ assessment to help you identify the areas of ministry that will complement your gifts in order for you to serve effectively. You can also find various tests on the internet to help you in this area. As children of God, we have a right to these gifts. Once you identify your gift and start operating in this area, you will have joy, contentment, peace, and fulfillment.
As mentioned, during this series, we will explore the following:
Have you opened your gift?
What are spiritual gifts?
Things we can do to identify our gifts.
The difference between gifts and talents.
How are you using your gifts?
Please take a moment this week to meditate on I Corinthians 12:4-11. This will help you to open and to operate in your gifts. I invite you to join me on this journey to re-imagine contentment in 2022!
Always look for the Remarkable in your life!
