Remarkable Memories!

Earth has no sorrow

That heaven can not heal

There is no situation that you’re going through

That’s so difficult

That God can not fix it!

Healing (1998) Richard Smallwood

Everyone has that one uncle that you would have to give a disclaimer about when bringing new friends home. My Uncle Noland was that one! He didn’t say much but said exactly what was on his mind. You may also have that cousin or family member that lived his best life under his terms which may not have been the path you thought best for him, but you loved him anyway. My cousin Robert was that one. I am sure you may have that cousin or friend that you love from a distance and you think about them and remind yourself to reach out to them, but time goes by and it becomes too late. My cousin Dominique was that one. To lose one family member that you love is hard but to lose three within a two-week span is traumatic.

During tough times we have to stand on His word because we are reminded that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3); Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5); The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble, He cares for those who trust in Him (Nahum 1:7); and Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted (Matthew 5:4).

Those are just a few of the scriptures that have helped me through this difficult time. I have so many memories that I will treasure forever of my dear relatives that have passed. I can remember my Uncle Noland telling a male friend, “You may be big, but I have a weapon if you try to hurt or disrespect my niece.” (He used more colorful language.) I can also remember my cousin Robert always asking me, “When you coming back home?” As I think about my cousin Dominque, the splitting image of her mom Jackie, I see her sweet smile and the kindness in her eyes and I grieve the moments that we didn’t share.

Grieving during a pandemic is even more complicated because now we have had to change so much about an already difficult process. Although as of today, we have over 170,000 deaths due to the COVID-19, none of those that I have lost have been due to the virus. My thoughts and prayers are for our grieving nation. I pray that our leaders will make good decisions that will be in the best interest of all people. I encourage everyone to take the time to show more love for those that you love and reach out to one another often and trust God during those difficult times in your life.

Start today by making those Remarkable Memories and treasure each moment with those that you love!
