Do you allow pivotal moments to break you, shape you, define you, or destroy you? Our pivotal moments can create incredible possibilities. Some of the pivotal moments in my life are associated with trying times, joy, and indescribable pain. For each of those pivotal moments, I can remember very specific details about that day. For example, I will recall a particular smell, the people involved, the food, or what I was wearing.
For my family, April 4, 1968, was a pivotal moment. Not only did we lose a giant in the Civil Rights Movement when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, TN, but earlier that day, my mother gave birth to a man that is simply fearless. He is kind, loving and is an amazing father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, colleague, and friend. There is no one like my big brother Reggie. These two pivotal moments in history have shaped our family. Both men share this important date on our calendar.
On Thursday, April 7, 2022, the U.S. Senate confirmed President Joe Biden's Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson. This historic vote is a pivotal moment in our history because Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will become the first Black woman to serve on the highest court in the nation. I will forever remember this pivotal moment! I think President Biden said it best, “the road toward our more perfect union is not always straight, and it is not always smooth. But sometimes it leads to a day like today — a day that reminds us what is possible — what is possible when progress is made and that the journey — well, it will always be worth it.”
When you face a pivotal moment, allow it to shape you! On this Palm Sunday, I am reminded of Jesus and how he allowed those pivotal moments to shape and to define our lives that will have eternal benefits. The scripture tells us in Matthew 21:9, the crowds that went ahead of Him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” Hosanna in the highest heaven!” Luke 19:38, “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” John 14:6, Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Pivotal moments are filled with possibilities! Use the growth from each experience to allow you to be ready for whatever God has in store for you. I will forever remember April 7, 2022. This pivotal moment demonstrates so many possibilities for future generations regarding what is possible. Thank you for your love and continued support! I am so thankful for each of you for joining me on this journey to re-imagine contentment in 2022!
Always look for the Remarkable in your life!
