Listening to the Political Discourse: Plan Your Vote!

Plan Your Vote; person holding flag in line waiting to vote

This is the last post in the Listening to the Political Discourse segment of the Listening Series.  As you know, we have discussed how we should listen to God, listen to our body, and the benefits and support gained from listening to people. During our previous post, we continued with Listening to the Political Discourse.  Because of this moment in our history, we have to know and believe that God is our ultimate authority! It is our civic duty to play an active role in the political process.  We must listen and hold our candidates at the local, state, and national levels accountable.

Now, we are down to two candidates in the race to become President of the United States.  We have tuned in for two political conventions. It has been 52 years since Shirley A. Chisholm, an African American woman announced her bid to become the candidate for the Democratic Party.  Her slogan was “Unbought and Unbossed.”  It has been three days since Vice President Kamala D. Harris gave her acceptance speech to become the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.  She is the first woman of color to do so in our country’s history.  Now, we are 71 days until election day.  Have you created your plan for election day?  Do you know where you will be on November 5, 2024?  Therefore, it is imperative that you plan your vote. You should also have those crucial conversations with those around you to make sure that they have planned their vote as well. Use this time wisely to prepare!

We have to be strategic in following up with those who have recently turned 18, our college students, the seniors in our circle, those who travel a lot, as well as those who don’t often talk about the political process.  We need to be deliberate about touching everyone in our circle of influence. Take a moment today to start planning your vote.  You do this by confirming your voting site, researching if you can do early voting in your state, marking the last date to register in your state (October 7th in Mississippi if you register in person or if you do a mail-in registration it must be postmarked by October 7th), and checking with your place of employment to determine if time off is offered for voting.

I thank God for your continued support during this series!  I am listening more, and I pray that you are too!  The Bible tells us in John 9:4, As long as it is day, we must do the works of Him who sent me.  Night is coming, when no one can work.  Proverbs 21:5, The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.  Colossians 4:5-6, Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders, make the most of every opportunity.  Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Start today by making your plan! Every vote counts!  As always, thank you for your love and continued support! Join me in prayer to change hearts, to heal our land, and for the contentment and peace to handle whatever should come up! I am so thankful to each of you for joining me on this journey to re-imagine contentment in 2024!  God has so much in store for each of us. This is our year to OVERCOME!

Always look for the Remarkable in your life!
