All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give
I will ever love and trust Him
In His presence daily live
By Judson W. Van DeVenter (put to music by
Winfield S. Weeden and published in 1896)
This old faithful hymn has withstood the test of time and has been performed by many of the greats in gospel music; as well as, by local church choirs around the world. Because surrendering is essential in our walk with the Lord, I am not sure how I have not talked about the power and purpose of a life that is completely surrendered to God! Surrendering is essential! Speaking from experience, it may be easy to surrender on Sunday morning but to live a lifestyle that is completely surrendered to the Lord requires that we as the hymn states, “ever love and trust Him”.
It is imperative that we give up control and open our hearts for God to manifest His perfect will for our lives. This is a humbling position that is not popular. We all can find ourselves chasing the next thing! However, we can give it up (surrender) or we can take the long road that will include many bumps, detours, sleepless nights, distractions, heartaches, stress,
overeating, sex, careers and other so-called substances designed to help you fight until you are ready to surrender. The Bible tell us tells in Genesis 1:27, So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them, male and female He created them. Ephesians 2:10, For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advanced for us to do. Galatians 2:20, I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who love me and gave Himself for me.
A modern version of this song about surrendering is by Tarsha Cobbs Leonard, Gracefully Broken. This beautiful song states:
God will break you to position
He will break you to promote you
And break you to put you in your right place
But when He breaks you (Yeah) He doesn’t hurt you, He
doesn’t
When He breaks you He doesn’t destroy you, He does it with;
grace
Anybody been gracefully broken?
Surrendering to God is a key component to having contentment, peace, joy, and purpose. Surrendering is a humbling experience as previously noted but it is worth it. Your physical, mental and emotional well-being is dependent upon it.
Thank you for joining me on this journey to re-imagine contentment in 2022! Remember, it’s personal – surrender!
Always look for the Remarkable in your life!
