I Still Believe! Part 1

Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24

In the fall of 1989, I was in the band at Alcorn State University and we played Grambling State University in Los Angeles, CA. Once news spread about the game, rumors began to circulate that the entire band would not be able to travel. After we started band camp, the game and travel schedule were announced. Unfortunately, it became painfully clear that everyone in the band would not be able to travel for the game. I quickly decided the following:

· I would rank higher within the flute section;

· I would be selected to travel for the game;

· I would not get sick or be afraid to travel for the first time on an airplane; and

· I would see and meet Earvin “Magic Johnson

Competition was fierce, but I increased my ranking in the flute section and I was on my way! Now, I had to manage my fear of flying but I soon realized that I was in good company. Most of those that traveled were also flying for the first time. Next, I had the audacity to believe that I would definitely meet Earvin “Magic” Johnson! The LA Lakers dominated basketball in the 1980s and I was a huge Magic fan! Once in LA, I traveled everywhere with my disposable camera in my band hat because I wanted to be ready.

After I finished performing during half-time, my friends pulled me in one motion in front of Magic watching the game on the sideline! We were all amazed and overjoyed! I took my picture and talked with him throughout half-time as if I was the only person at the game. I wonder now if I still believe as I did in 1989? Believing requires that we completely surrender to God. That we pray in alignment with God’s will. That we also cast all of our cares and doubts unto Him; and lastly, that we trust Him with the process and the outcome.

Take a moment today and reflect on the last time you believed God for something in your life. As we approach the Christmas Holiday, this is a wonderful time to reflect and to re-imagine our lives based on what we believe!

Always look for the Remarkable in your life!
