Now that we have contemplated those barriers that prevent us from obtaining our freedom in Christ and have made Christ the head of our lives, let’s take the next step for becoming Remarkably free. This step is essential to everyone! I like to call it centering myself.
When you center yourself, you need to find a quiet place to pray and to remember who you are in Christ. During my time in the Ministers-In-Training Program at the Sanctuary at Kingdom Square under the leadership of Bishop-Elect Anthony G. Maclin, we studied a book by Rev. Dr. Howard Thurman. Rev. Thurman is considered one of the giants of the black church, civil rights, and social justice movements. In 1969, Rev. Thurman published The Centering Moment. This book served as the foundation for our weekly class meditations because it was filled with prayers, mediations, and other reflections from Rev. Thurman that remain relevant for our current day challenges and social distress.
Because of the disturbances, distractions, and many disappointments in life, we must be intentional about securing private time to center ourselves and to create time to pray to the Lord. For scripture teaches us in Matthew 6:6, But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. We also find in Mark 6:31, Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” In Isaiah 30:15, This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength but you would have none of it.
Start today by centering yourself in a quiet place free from all noise, which is a critical component. Now you can seek God and hear from Him regarding His divine will for your life. Thank you so much for letting me know that I am not alone on this Remarkable journey to becoming free in Christ! Please start today by centering yourself in a quiet place to seek the Lord.
On a Journey Towards Freedom!
