I love this time of the year! Faith, football, family, fellowship, fun, and great food are all essential ingredients during this season of Thanksgiving and Joy! I started on Saturday, November 19, with the Soul Bowl on the “Yard” of Alcorn State University. This was my first Soul Bowl in many years. It was amazing to see so many familiar faces from my days in the Yard. The battle between the bands was so much fun. I was reminded of my “flute dog” days in the marching band called the Sounds of Dynomite! I finally got to see Coach Deion “Prime” Sanders in action. This activity kicked off my Season of Thanksgiving and Joy! Next, we hosted our family for Thanksgiving with a special surprise from my Uncle Roosevelt and my cousin Dr. Sunao. This was their first visit in several years. My mom and her siblings were so surprised! We had so much fun together!
I learned that we can’t take our time and relationships for granted. That we should listen intentionally to each other. That we should plan activities but be flexible. That it is ok to enjoy a piece of cake or an extra slice of pie with coffee or tea with family and friends. That forgiveness is good for the soul. That it is ok to remember and cry about those that have transitioned. That we should not worry about the details of cleaning and making sure everything is perfect; and lastly, that we should be fully present to enjoy every day as a gift from God.
The scripture tells us in I Thessalonians 5:18, Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Matthew 18:20, For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. Luke 10:41-42, But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
I close this blog post by asking for your prayers and support. I will be taking a break from posting the blog each Sunday but will be posting scriptures, quotes, and other motivational messages and videos during December and January in order to finish my book. Please help me to be accountable by sending notes or words of encouragement. Don’t forget to take the time to enjoy this Season of Thanksgiving and Joy!
As always, thank you for your love and continued support! Join me in prayer to change hearts, to heal our land, and for the contentment and peace to handle whatever should come up! I am so thankful to each of you for joining me on this journey to re-imagine contentment in 2022!
Enjoy this beautiful Season of Thanksgiving and Joy!
Always look for the Remarkable in your life!
