On January 20, 2021, Joseph R. Biden, Jr. was sworn in as our 46th President of the United States and Kamala D. Harris was sworn in as our Vice President of the United States. She is the highest-ranking elected female in American history!
This was truly a Remarkable Day that was reimagined because of the pandemic! Let’s pray for the new administration as they govern our land, repair and strengthen alliances, and appoint national leaders. President Biden stated, “For without unity, there is no peace, only bitterness and fury, no progress, only exhausting outrage, no nation, only a state of chaos. This is our historic moment of crisis and challenge and unity is the path forward. And we must meet this moment as the United States of America.”
I am feeling hopeful because I know so many people have been struggling and not sure how they were going to make it but, we have to remember the words found in I Peter 5:10 that tells us, And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. In the eloquent words of Amanda Gorman, National Youth Poet Laureate, “We are far from polished, far from pristine. But that doesn’t mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect. We are striving to forge our union with purpose, to compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters, and conditions of man. And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us, but what stands before us. We close the divide because we know to put our future first.”
This Remarkable Day will go down in history for how democracy prevailed and the glass-ceiling was shattered!
