What a blessing to see a brand-new year! The year 2020 is definitely one for the history books! As I reflect on the year, it was filled with so many conflicting emotions. We all witnessed moments of helplessness, isolation, record unemployment, social injustice, loss, hunger, the approval of two vaccines for COVID-19, promotions, political change, the launch of new businesses, new books, and blogs, all within the context of a pandemic that claimed the lives of over 350,000 people around the country.
Nevertheless, we serve an all knowing and all-powerful God! During this pandemic, we all have been required to re-imagine our lives. Many national brands, churches, schools, and other institutions have highlighted how we need to re-imagine our lives as a result of the pandemic.
Let’s start this year off by Re-Imagining Contentment, living our lives from God’s perspective. First, ask yourself, “Are you content?” Is it possible to have contentment in our culture? In today’s society, things aren’t designed for you to be content, loyal nor satisfied. You really don’t think about contentment until things shift drastically beyond what you had planned for your life. Now, we are also dealing with our contentment being challenged because of a pandemic and the need to shift how we do things in our lives. We need to shift now due to the necessity to protect others and ourselves.
Let’s learn to re-imagine contentment from God’s perspective together! This way we can all do what’s necessary to survive this pandemic and come out better. According to Philippians 4:11, I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content, whatever the circumstances. We can use this time wisely to learn new skills, exercise, volunteer, develop or enhance healthy eating habits, drink more water, respect and appreciate others, spend quality time with our families, study the Word of God and rest.
